Today's flying adventure included Daun, a seasoned pilot with an incredible wealth of flying hours. Bonanzas are in his blood, and watching him effortlessly navigate these planes is a joy. As Brad had commitments for the day, Daun graciously offered to take me out for some flying exploration. We set off to Middletown Airport (<'a href='https://www.bonanzaboys.com/airport-list/KMWO'>MWO) for a quick stop, touching down for a full stop before taxiing back. Our next destination was I66 Clinton County, where Daun Sr., a lovely gentleman, proudly owns 'Olive Oil,' his Bonanza, cherished for its classic green color and beautifully maintained original appearance. The panel was immaculate, showcasing the care Daun Sr. had performs.
After marveling at Olive Oil, we returned to Moraine. Although it wasn't an extended flight, it was an enriching experience. Daun then suggested flying from the left seat, giving me the opportunity to sit in the back and relish the view. It's incredible how the perspective changes when seated at different positions within the aircraft. Given that I am now the Pilot-In-Command (PIC) of Big Boy, who knows when I'll get another chance to enjoy the backseat view. Daun executed a flawless landing, gracefully bringing Big Boy back to Moraine. It was yet another wonderful day of flying experiences.
Upon Brad's return from work, we decided to spend some time in the hangar, attending to minor maintenance tasks on Big Boy. We lubricated areas that required attention and inspected various engine components, especially since we'd accrued over 10 hours of flight time. I took advantage of the opportunity to relabel some switches on the panel. The faux burled wood finish, a relic from the '70s, is the only aspect of Big Boy that Shawn and I aren't entirely fond of. When we gather enough resources, it'll be the first thing to undergo a change.
Moraine Airpark, buzzing with an active community, always welcomes wandering pilots who stop by to see what's happening. It's a truly wonderful place to be.
