Pre-Flight Prep: All Systems Go!
Zack hadn’t flown in a couple of weeks because of work, and he was itching to get his paws—I mean, hands—back on the controls. Apparently, pilots need to fly like dogs need belly rubs. So, the boys planned a “$100 hamburger” flight, which, as I’ve come to learn, is code for “flying for fun and food.” Works for me!
At the airport, Zack did his usual walk-around of the plane, poking, prodding, and sniffing every nook and cranny. He says it's about safety—like a dog checking out a new spot in the park, you gotta make sure everything’s just right before taking off. I get it, even if there’s perfectly good grass outside the hangar door calling my name. When it was finally time to board, Shawn brought out this ramp for me, but let’s be real—I hate that thing. I had Zack lift me onto the wing instead, like the VIP I am.
Shawn fitted me with my flying ear protector—some dogs wear “mutt-muffs,” but with my stylish, perky ears, I get this cool ear-scarf contraption instead. Safety first, even if I always find a way to shake it off halfway through the flight. While Zack handled the radio calls (talking to those humans in the tower, I guess), I focused on my most important task: window surveillance.
Takeoff Time: Up, Up, and Away!
And then… whooosh—we’re off! My favorite part. Zack expertly lifted us into the sky, and just like that, we were soaring above the treetops. Everything below looked so tiny—cars, houses, and maybe a few squirrels running around (miss you, buddies!). I’d stick my head out the window, but Zack’s already put a stop to that idea. Apparently, safety means keeping paws, tails, and heads inside the vehicle at all times.
While we cruised along, Shawn made sure I had snacks and water, keeping this co-pilot hydrated and happy. Zack stayed laser-focused, making sure everything was safe as we flew over the ridges of the Appalachian Mountains. Turbulence? No big deal. With Zack at the controls, I knew we were in good paws…uh, hands.
Lock Haven Adventures: Burgers and Walks
We touched down at Lock Haven, and it was paws to the ground for a quick walk along the river. What a treat! The whole town is just a short stroll from the airport, and it’s full of sights, smells, and new places to explore. Lunch was at a place called Odd Fellas, where the humans had fancy burgers, and I got…kibble. Not exactly the “$100 hamburger” I was promised, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.
The Flight Back: All Clear to Snooze
After our fun day, we made our way back to the plane. I watched as a big, noisy helicopter lifted off nearby—pretty cool stuff, even for a seasoned traveler like me. We climbed back into ‘Big Boy,’ Zack checked all our belts, and up we went again. The flight home was smooth with a great tailwind, making it a quick hop back to base. As soon as we landed, I couldn’t wait to get home for a well-deserved nap.
This Dog’s Final 'Bark' on the Flight
Flying isn’t just a thrill—it’s about spending time with my crew, keeping things safe, and making sure we all have a barking good time. Whether I’m on window duty, snack watch, or just enjoying the view, it’s all part of the job. So until our next adventure, keep your noses up and your tails wagging!
